Winter clutter that could put buyers off your home
The busy spring season for buying and selling homes is about to begin. Rightmove data shows April is one of the best months to list a property, with quicker sales and buyers eager to move by summer. May’s double Bank Holidays also encourage more viewings.
First impressions count, so make sure your home feels fresh and ready for the new season. A few winter leftovers can put buyers off, so tackle these before launching to market:
Christmas lights:
If they’re still up, it’s time for them to come down. Out-of-season decorations can make a home feel poorly maintained.
Sandbags:
With this winter being one of the wettest on record, many homeowners have kept sandbags nearby. Keep them accessible, but store them discreetly for viewings. Remember, past flooding must still be disclosed.
Fallen leaves:
Winter weather quickly turns fallen leaves into a soggy mess. Clear them from gardens, driveways, balconies, gutters and drains to create a tidier, more uplifting welcome.
Dead plants:
Wilted plants signal neglect. Remove dead annuals, prune perennials and pull up any weeds to revive your outdoor space.
Overly cosy décor:
Spring buyers want light and space. Swap heavy throws and dark colours for lighter fabrics and open curtains or blinds. A simple vase of flowers can brighten any room.
